Nice to meet you

I’ve been in the mental health field for many years and cut my teeth working with at-risk youth in various roles, including supervising other counselors for nearly a decade. I also have extensive experience with military men, women, and their families. I've mostly been known for using art in therapy, mindfulness therapies, arming my people with many tools and resources, and helping others transform from a place of pain to a place of purpose. I'm often told I have a warm, strengths-based approach.

Interests

I am a professional artist. I created an award-winning webcomic called Cancer Owl (is now archived on mattmewhorter.com) which was translated into several languages and led me to speak at Stanford and Harvard. I've illustrated children's books and also create fine art. I'm huge into qigong, tai-chi, yoga and exercise in general. I bike ride almost every day, and walk with my wife. I'm a huge pizza nerd and often entertain company using an outdoor oven. I'm crazy about my wife and daughter too. I assist my daughter in her mini donut business and we walk every night before bed. Plus I'm a huge ongoing learner and read every day. And, last but not least, I love my 3 cats and hamster and spoil all 4!
